David Alan Harvey

David Alan Harvey’s photographs spark the human psyche. His books “Cuba” and “Divided Soul” capture the effects of the blood and sweat of a cultural migration into the Americas. “Living Proof” explores hip-hop culture. His 2012 award-winning book “Based on a True Story” published by BurnBooks broke new ground in photo book narrative form and design. 

His work has been exhibited at the Corcoran Gallery of Art, the Biblioteque Nacional in Paris, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, among other venues. Some of his most prolific essays have appeared in NatGeo since 1973.

Current projects include “Off For A Family Drive” to be published 2020 and “OBX” his ongoing work on a disappearing barrier island.  

As a popular mentor for young photographers, Harvey founded Burn Magazine, an award-winning online and in print journal for emerging photographers. He is currently the publisher of BurnBooks, a press specializing in limited edition art books. Harvey is a member of the legendary Magnum Photos cooperative. David lives in the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

( Your work will be sent online before the Master Class and David will talk about it during the class, of course this is optional)

David will talk about HOW TO START a personal project helping you to get to higher levels of your photography.

This Master Class is recommended to photographers with a good understanding of photography, who are interested in how to tell a story in deeper and complex ways and that want to take the next step in their photography.

Its an amazing opportunity for all photographers who love documentary style and want to show their work and receive an honest opinion from David. He will show you better ways to improve that project that you are working on, help you to reach your personal goal about your work and teach you strategies to navigate in this Photography Industry.

Su galardonado libro de 2012 “Basado en una historia real” publicado por BurnBooks abrió nuevos caminos en la forma y el diseño narrativo de los libros de fotos.

Su obra ha sido expuesta en la Galería de Arte Corcoran, la Biblioteca Nacional de París, el Museo de Arte Moderno y el Museo de Bellas Artes de Virginia, entre otros lugares. Algunos de sus ensayos más prolíficos han aparecido en NatGeo desde 1973.
